Career Training

For the majority of addicts and alcoholics, professional treatment is necessary to break through the disease of addiction, as well as its major symptom: denial. Once a patient sees addiction as a progressive, chronic, and ultimately fatal disease, treatment can bring about changes in behavior that allow the substance abuser to live a renewed and rewarding, clean and sober life.

Treatment is a gift to those who recognize its value; but it’s a curse to those who may need it, but don’t yet want it. With the user’s denial still intact, the crucial change in perspective that breaks the chokehold of addiction can’t take place.

This is why intervention is so widely used today: it is the most effective tool for bringing the substance abuser’s denial into sharp focus, then gently setting it aside to let the reality of the user’s situation set in—often for the very first time.

The term “hero” is often used too freely, cheapening its meaning in appropriate applications. However, to family members who have seen their loved one’s lives literally saved through the skills of an interventionist, no one could be more aptly termed a hero than the one who made the gift of treatment become both desirable and available.

Intervention is at once a stressful, demanding, and dangerous career, taxing the interventionist physically and emotionally, to almost the same degree as the patient. However, the rewards are deeply satisfying and long lasting. To see hope in the eyes of an addict and the family—where hopelessness was so obvious only a short time before—is an achievement that brings great personal pride and fulfillment.

If it’s your desire to help others by creating the deep, lasting, and life-changing opportunity that follows intervention, KD Consulting can help you train for this gratifying career. Our course of study covers everything from how to determine when an intervention is needed, to conducting your own interventions. You’ll also receive hands-on instruction, assisting one of our talented interventionists in planning—and carrying out—a series of interventions.

As your internship continues, you’ll also be collecting hours toward certification, the most important element of your training. To find out more about our Career Training program, or to apply for an internship, call our Intervention Manager at 866) 631-0026 or email us at info@kdconsulting.org.
